Business Class Redemption Value: Case Study

Please note: This is a demonstration case study designed to show how our calculator works. It does not reflect real-time award space or real user data.

Aspirational travel in premium cabins is where points and miles can provide outsized value. Business class cash fares are notoriously high, but award pricing often makes these seats accessible, even with high fuel surcharges.

The Inputs

Let's say you're looking at an international business class ticket that sells for $4,500 round-trip. You can book this exact itinerary for 70,000 points, but the airline passes on high surcharges totaling $250.

The Calculation

The formula to determine the Cents Per Point (CPP) value is:

CPP = ((Cash Price - Taxes and Fees) / Points Required) × 100

Let's do the math: CPP = (($4,500.00 - $250.00) / 70,000) × 100 CPP = ($4,250.00 / 70,000) × 100 CPP = 6.07 cents per point

The Result

Even with the $250 in surcharges, the value obtained here is an incredible 6.07 cents per point. This highlights why saving points for premium cabin redemptions is a favorite strategy among travelers.
